Godogodo killings, unforgivable crime—Sen Laah
KADUNA—Senator Danjuma Laah, (PDP, Kaduna South), has described as unforgivable the invasion of Godogodo in Southern Kaduna last weekend by herdsmen, who allegedly killed 20 persons and injured scores of others.
The death toll in the Saturday and Sunday attacks rose to 40 Monday, as residents have abandoned the community located in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Senator Laah, who was surrounded by beleaguered survivors and stern-looking soldiers and policemen, lamented that relevant authorities have refused to give the soldiers and police stationed in the semi-urban town enough men and equipment, welfare and other incentives to motivate them to bring out their best. Laah, who arrived Godogodo at 8a.m., Monday, inspected the carnage and later addressed the mourning crowd. He said: “I heard what has been happening since last Saturday evening, but I was stopped from rushing down here. “I want to say that what I have seen here is a huge crime. It is an unforgivable crime against the people of Godogodo, Southern Kaduna and humanity. “No group of persons must be allowed to escape with this impunity. My heart bleeds for you and I shall take it upon myself to ensure that the relevant Senate Committee does the needful to bring peace, succour and justice to the people of Godogodo. “My investigation shows that there were very few soldiers and policemen here, compared to the size of the town and the danger looming over it.”
