K1 was born at Idumagbo, Lagos Island as Wasiu Adewale Omogbolahan Olasunkanmi Ayinde Anifowoshe to the Fidipote Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun state.

He discovered passion for music at eight years. Though his parents opposed his musical pursuit, but he still pursued it. At 15 he had won various local musical competitions. He eventually dropped out of secondary school as a result of his father’s untimely death and finds succour in fuji music.
